Analyst: Powell's forward guidance may be limited, with more focus on his future moves
Odaily Planet Daily News As the market widely expects the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates unchanged at this meeting, analysts say what deserves more attention is the future direction of Fed Chair Jerome Powell: Will he remain on the Fed or leave after his term as chair ends on May 15? Analysts said: "Regardless of his intentions, we believe that given Kevin Warsh is expected to be confirmed as his successor, Powell's forward guidance on policy during his final press conference as chair will be very limited." They added: "We believe Powell will adopt a more reflective tone when reviewing his tenure—he leaves behind a picture of a strong economy, but inflation is still some distance from returning to the 2% target. As negotiations between Iran and the US remain deadlocked and a prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz appears to be the new normal, we believe the FOMC's resolve to keep rates unchanged has further strengthened."
