New York's first free grocery store, The Polymarket, officially opens today

2026-02-12 15:49

Odaily reported that prediction market platform Polymarket announced the official opening of "New York's first free grocery store, The Polymarket," at 137 South 7th Avenue in New York City. As the city's first free grocery store, it was built by New Yorkers for New Yorkers.

Recently, competition for new users between prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket has intensified. On February 3rd, Kalshi launched an event at WestSide Market in Lower Manhattan, offering customers free groceries worth $50. The event drew long queues, with many participants stating the value was equivalent to several hours' wages, making it very attractive. Kalshi co-founder Tarek Mansour said the move was to give back to the community and expand the user base. Polymarket, in turn, opened "New York's first free grocery store, The Polymarket" today, where all items are free, no purchase is required, and it's open to all New Yorkers. Additionally, they donated an extra $1 million to local food banks.
