Moldovan National Anti-Corruption Center Discloses $107 Million Cryptocurrency Scheme to Interfere in Elections
Odaily News According to a disclosure by Moldova's National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), it has uncovered a complex transaction scheme involving $107 million aimed at using cryptocurrency to interfere in the 2025 parliamentary elections. The investigation revealed that the scheme transferred funds (primarily USDT) through centralized platforms in Russia and Kyrgyzstan to Moldovan intermediaries, which were then converted into cash to bribe voters, fund protests, and promote specific candidate images. Blockchain analysis firm TRM Labs further indicated that the Kyrgyzstan-based exchange TokenSpot may have been involved as a front for the sanctioned Russian platform Garantex. Data shows that $43 million was transferred through this scheme in 2025 alone. Currently, the related implicated wallets and accounts have been subjected to international sanctions. (Decrypt)
