Japanese exchange GMO will airdrop the previously delayed SGB in the form of Japanese yen to some XRP holders
2023-09-22 07:49:44
Odaily News Japanese cryptocurrency exchange GMO announced that it will airdrop corresponding amounts of Songbird tokens SGB (issued in Japanese yen) to some traders who hold XRP in 2020. Starting December 12, 2020, users will receive the equivalent of 0.1511 SGB in Japanese yen for every XRP they hold. It is reported that Songbird is an experimental blockchain of Flare Network. Flare initially aimed to be a DeFi application using the XRP token, but gradually transitioned to the Layer 1 blockchain. The snapshot was completed on December 12, 2020, and holders were supposed to receive both Flare (FLR) and SGB airdrops. But litigation between Ripple and the U.S. SEC delayed the airdrop plans: FLR waited nearly two years before being distributed to XRP holders, while SGB was further delayed. However, some exchanges believe that holders residing in Japan are “not eligible to participate in this airdrop” due to local laws. As one of the few compliant exchanges in the country, GMO “decided to airdrop SGB in Japanese yen to XRP holders” to satisfy customer demand. (CoinDesk)
