Iran: 60-Day Deadline Has "Completely Lost Its Meaning" After US Violates Memorandum of Understanding

2026-08-17 07:56

Odaily News Agency, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei stated that after the United States violated the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington on June 18, the so-called "60-day deadline" no longer holds any meaning. Baghaei said: "There is no mention of a '60-day deadline' in any clause of the memorandum of understanding, and the Islamic Republic of Iran never formulates policies under pressure, ultimatums, or time constraints."

He stated that the memorandum originally set a 60-day period for negotiations on two topics: "lifting sanctions" and "nuclear issues"; if no agreement was reached by then, the deadline could have been extended, but because the US "seriously and broadly violated" the agreement just weeks after the memorandum was signed, negotiations never began. He added: "Therefore, the so-called 60-day deadline has completely lost its meaning." (Jinshi)
