Commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has significantly declined

2026-07-12 09:00

Odaily Planet Daily News On the 12th local time, after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz once again, commercial shipping traffic through the strait dropped sharply. Commercial shipping tracking data cited by Iranian authorities shows that only 11 commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, including 8 oil tankers and 3 cargo ships.

In the early hours of the 12th local time, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Navy issued a statement saying it had fired warning shots at a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement claimed that due to "the unsafe situation being caused by the illegal intervention of foreign forces," the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily closed until further notice. Until the United States ends its intervention in the region, no vessels will be allowed to pass through. (CCTV News)
