Trump responds to massive cryptocurrency gains: Claims ignorance
Odaily Planet Daily News In an interview with CNBC on Thursday local time, US President Trump sidestepped questions about his earnings during his term, stating that his business affairs are managed by his sons and that he was unaware of the cryptocurrency investments which have netted him over $1 billion. "I've always been making money," he said, "I'm a businessman, and a very good one. I make money, quite a lot of it." He indicated that others are responsible for investing his wealth, and he doesn't know who they are. "I have others manage this money. I haven't even spoken with them—I don't even know who they are," he said. "My son Eric handles this side of things. I don't discuss this kind of stuff with him." Trump's latest financial disclosure report shows he earned approximately $1.2 billion from various cryptocurrency holdings last year. He stated he doesn't understand these investments. "I don't know. But it's not illegal. I could have known," he said, noting there is no law requiring "when running the country, you have to recuse yourself from every decision that might relate to you. That's simply not realistic." (Jin Shi)
