Apple is reportedly skipping the high-end M6 Mac chip, shifting focus to the AI-focused M7 series
Odaily Planet Daily News Apple is undertaking one of the largest shifts in its Mac chip strategy, planning to jump directly to a new generation of chips focused on artificial intelligence capabilities for its next-generation top-tier processors. According to sources familiar with the matter, the company is currently in the M5 series stage and plans to launch a base-level M6 processor for entry-level Macs as early as this year.
However, sources indicate that Apple will, for the first time, skip the high-end version of this chip. Apple plans to release Pro and Max versions belonging to the new M7 generation chip series in 2027, which will feature more powerful computing and graphics processing capabilities. Apple is taking this unusual step to accelerate the introduction of technologies originally scheduled for a later release. This move is expected to meet the growing market demand for on-device AI features and graphics-intensive software. (Jin Shi)
