UK Reform Party leader scales back media activities amid investigation into £5 million donation from crypto investor

2026-06-13 04:03

Odaily Planet Daily News: UK Reform Party leader Nigel Farage has scaled back his public media activities in recent weeks, facing a parliamentary investigation into his failure to declare a £5 million (approximately $6.4 million) donation from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne before the 2024 general election.

Data shows that Nigel Farage held 20 press conferences in the first four months of this year, but after the undeclared donation was made public on April 29, he held only one press conference in May. Critics noted that the Reform Party announced several crypto-friendly policies after the election, including plans to reduce the capital gains tax rate on crypto assets from 24% to 10% and to establish a national Bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England. Following the announcement of an investigation by the UK Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, the Reform Party removed the digital finance draft document from its website in late May. (FT)
