Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Issues HKD 12 Billion Public Digital Bonds, Setting a New Global Record for Scale
Odaily Planet Daily News The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited announced its first issuance of HKD 12 billion in public digital bonds, comprising three tranches: HKD 6 billion for a 2-year term, HKD 2.5 billion for a 5-year term, and RMB 3 billion for a 3-year term. Among them, the 5-year HKD bond is the longest-tenor HKD digital bond ever issued, establishing a new benchmark for the HKD bond market.
It is reported that this issuance is the largest digital bond issuance globally to date, and the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation has become the first public institution in Hong Kong to issue digital bonds. The bonds will be generated on a distributed ledger technology platform operated by the Central Moneymarkets Unit, which also serves as the settlement and clearing system for the digital bonds.
