Odaily Planet Daily News: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not an international waterway but is jointly owned by Iran and Oman, and is thousands of miles away from the U.S. coast. The maritime boundaries are very clear.
At its narrowest point, the Strait of Hormuz is only 21 nautical miles wide, approximately 39 kilometers, with the entire strait lying within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Iran believes that, from a legal perspective, this grants Iran and Oman the right to regulate passage through the strait.
