Odaily Planet Daily News: The Qingdao Licang District Procuratorate issued an announcement stating that the defendant Zhang used the opportunity to register a virtual currency wallet on behalf of others to obtain the mnemonic phrase, and in the early hours of the morning, stole 107 bitcoins from the victim Feng in multiple transfers. Zhang then transferred the bitcoins through multiple virtual currency trading platforms layer by layer, converting them into approximately 660,000 RMB. The Qingdao Licang District People's Court sentenced Zhang to 10 years and 9 months in prison for theft in the first instance, and imposed a fine of 100,000 RMB.
After the defendant appealed, the Qingdao Intermediate People's Court ruled to dismiss the appeal and uphold the original verdict. The court recognized the actual proceeds from disposing of the stolen goods, totaling over 660,000 RMB, as the amount of theft. (Shandong Legal News)
