Chinese real estate company owner kidnapped and killed after family failed to pay $2 million cryptocurrency ransom

Odaily Planet Daily reported that according to Cambodian media, Yang Weixin, a 53-year-old Chinese real estate company owner, was kidnapped by three suspects in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Phnom Penh on the evening of May 29.
At 3 a.m. on May 30, the suspects used the victim's phone to send a message to his wife, demanding a $2 million cryptocurrency ransom. Because the family failed to pay, the suspects beat and tortured the victim by suffocation. At 11 a.m. that same day, the victim's body was found in the back seat of a Toyota Prius in a wasteland in Langao District. The suspects sent a final message at nearly 9 a.m. saying "That's it" before going missing. Police have launched an investigation. (kohsantepheapdaily)
