Jensen Huang: Next-generation AI infrastructure will require a large amount of optical connections, copper wire can no longer meet the demand

2026-05-08 01:51

Odaily Planet Daily News On Wednesday Eastern Time, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang praised the new cooperation project with Corning in an interview, stating that it brings important opportunities for the US to rebuild its technology supply chain.

Jensen Huang indicated that next-generation AI infrastructure will require a large amount of optical connections, as computing demands are growing so rapidly that copper wires can no longer suffice. "We are going to expand the application of optical technology on an unprecedented scale. Frankly speaking, no optical company has ever had such a scale," said Huang.

Jensen Huang also stated that the benefits of the current wave of AI investment extend far beyond technology companies. He pointed out that the AI industry's growing demand for electricians, construction workers, chip manufacturing employees, and data center infrastructure experts is a strong testament to how this construction process has already impacted the entire economy.
