US media: Trump to receive briefing on Thursday on new action plans against Iran, including forceful strikes and partial control of the Strait of Hormuz

2026-04-30 02:46

Odaily Planet Daily News Two sources said that Trump plans to receive a briefing on Thursday from General Michael Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, regarding new plans for potential military action against Iran. The briefing suggests that Trump is seriously considering resuming large-scale combat operations to break the negotiating stalemate or deliver a decisive blow before ending the war. Three sources said Central Command has prepared a plan for a "short but powerful" strike against Iran, which could target infrastructure. The expectation is that Iran would then show greater flexibility on the nuclear issue and return to the negotiating table. Another plan expected to be presented to Trump is to take control of part of the Strait of Hormuz to restore commercial shipping passage. A source said such an operation could involve ground forces. Another option discussed in the past and possibly raised in the briefing is a special forces operation to secure control of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile. Kurilla gave a similar briefing to Trump on February 26, two days before the US and Israel launched a war against Iran. A source close to Trump said it was that briefing that led to Trump’s decision to go to war. (Jin Shi)
