Instagram parent company Meta announced Wednesday that Instagram is developing NFT minting and selling features through its app. An upcoming NFT "end-to-end toolkit" will allow users to create and launch their own NFTs and sell them via Instagram.
"A small group of creators will soon be able to create digital collectibles (NFTs) and sell them on Instagram," Meta's head of business and fintech Stephane Kasriel said in a statement. At its inception, InstagramNFT minting will be done using the Polygon blockchain
. The app will also pull NFT metadata from OpenSea to view collectible names and descriptions on Instagram.
Meta shared in a statement that it will first roll out the new NFT features to select artists and content creators before making them available to a wider audience. Creators like photographer DrifterShoots, visual artist Ilse Valfré, and artist Amber Vittoria have all been selected to gain early access to Instagram's new NFT feature.
Vittoria told Decrypt via Twitter private message that she is happy that Instagram continues to promote the NFT business.

Why should we vigorously promote the NFT business? Meta stated that it believes in the vision of Web3 and hopes that creators will use NFT to better monetize their content.
"Our strategy for Web3 technologies, including blockchain, is focused on helping creators make a living," Kasriel said.
"We believe that Web3 technologies, like blockchain, will positively enhance the creator economy by empowering creators to create and monetize new types of digital assets."
But Kasriel also believes that the crypto space is riddled with "complex experiences" that hinder mass adoption.
"The user experience needs to be much simpler," he said.
While Meta won’t initially charge its own fees for NFT sales through its app, that’s a matter of time. The company also promised to cover ethereum gas fees for buyers at “launch,” but didn’t specify an end date for this benefit.
“Meta will not charge to create or sell digital collectibles until 2024,” Kasriel said, but he also noted that any in-app transactions “will still be subject to applicable App Store fees,” such as Apple’s controversial “ 30% tax".
In response to Decrypt's request for comment, a Meta representative referred to Kasriel's Medium poststatement。

“Instagram was the catalyst for my creative life — it made publishing images decentralized — what the printing press did to words,” says photographer Dave Krugman. He was also selected for early access to Instagram's new NFT feature.
