Uniswap Labs, Lead Developer of Decentralized Exchange Protocol Uniswap, Announces Venture Capital Arm
The unit will invest in different categories of Web3 projects, focusing on startups building blockchain infrastructure, developer tools and consumer-facing applications. Uniswap Labs Ventures will also focus on projects that closely align with Uniswap Labs values of long-term building, open collaboration with the community, and users first.
The fund size of Uniswap Labs Ventures has not been disclosed. Matteo Leibowitz, the company’s head of venture capital and former The Block research analyst, said that the investment funds will come directly from Uniswap Labs’ balance sheet. He declined to comment on the size of its balance sheet or average investment size.
Before launching its venture capital arm, Uniswap Labs had invested in 11 startups and projects, including MakerDAO, Aave, Compound Protocol, PartyDAO, LayerZero and Ethereum developer platform Tenderly.
When asked how Uniswap Labs decides to invest in a project, Leibowitz said the company "very much values the resilience and vision of the founders."
He added, “Beyond this, we are looking for projects that will advance the benefits and user adoption of Web3. In all cases, we are looking to support those who can draw from our experience and expertise as a fast-growing crypto-native company A team that benefits from knowledge.”
Uniswap Labs Ventures aims to help startups build and scale in strategy, product, partnerships, engineering and design.
