Observation and Viewpoint

The first full week of 2022 is over, and Polkadot has opened the 7th parachain slot, which is expected to end this Thursday (January 13). Different from the first round, the 6 auctions in the second round will be separated by two weeks. Therefore, many participants hope to shorten the time of each auction.

Bill, the head of technical education at the Web3 Foundation, answered this question at the latest AMA sharing event. There are two reasons for this. First of all, I don’t want to overload Polkadot at the moment. Adding too many chains at the same time during the lease period is not conducive to maintaining network stability, although engineers are very confident about adding 5 parachains at a time. Secondly, the longer interval time is also to allow the winners of those parachain slots to have sufficient time to prepare for the launch.

Although there are reasonable reasons for the timing of the current parachain slot Auction, the significance of on-chain governance is that any DOT holder can express their ideas through referendums. Known as the Ethereum on Polkadot, Moonbeam will officially launch Polkadot on January 11. As a smart contract platform in the Polkadot ecosystem, it can carry a rich ecology. Its leading network, Moonriver, has been developing on Kusama for a while , its ecology has also made some progress, and its TVL has quickly reached about 300 million US dollars.

After Moonbeam goes online, these projects that have been successfully running in Kusama will be quickly launched on Moonbeam, helping Moonbeam through the early stages of development.

In addition, some well-known DeFi and blockchain application projects also announced that they will be launched on Moonbeam. The Polkadot ecology urgently needs a model room to verify. Ecology fired the first signal flare, and we will wait and see the next evolution of Polkadot ecology.
