Trump's face-to-face pressure is ineffective, and some Republican members of the House of Representatives still have reservations about the tax bill
Odaily News U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday pressured his fellow Republicans in Congress to unite behind a comprehensive tax cut bill, but he apparently failed to convince a handful of stubborn Republicans who could still block the package that covers much of Trump's domestic agenda. In a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill, Trump bluntly warned House Republicans not to try to make further changes to the massive bill. He strongly warned against making it more difficult for people to get Medicaid benefits. "Don't mess around with Medicaid," Trump told Republicans, according to a person present who spoke on condition of anonymity. Trump also dissuaded Republicans from seeking further cuts to state and local taxes. But the issue is particularly important to moderate Republicans in high-tax states such as California and New York. (Jin Shi)
