Australian police seized assets related to hacking case, including 25 BTC and seaside mansion
2025-05-19 02:54:43

Odaily News The Australian Federal Police (AFP) announced on May 18 that it had seized 25 bitcoins (currently worth about $2.62 million), a beachfront mansion and a Mercedes-Benz car from a Queensland man, with a total value of A$4.5 million (about $2.88 million). According to the investigation, these assets may be related to the theft of 950 bitcoins from a French exchange in 2013.
Shane Stephen Duffy, the man involved in the case, pleaded guilty to hacking crimes in 2016 involving the sale of League of Legends player data. The AFP exercised special powers under the Proceeds of Crime Act to obtain the above assets through a court confiscation order without filing criminal charges. Data shows that the AFP has frozen more than $1.2 billion in suspected criminal assets since 2019. (Cointelegraph)
