Odaily News A federal judge on Monday ordered the arrest of top Supreme Court lawyer Tom Goldstein and held him without bail after prosecutors warned he was a "significant" flight risk from his pending criminal tax evasion case.
Prosecutors said Goldstein’s bail should be revoked because he failed to disclose to pretrial services after his recent indictment that he controlled two cryptocurrency wallets through which he received more than $8 million last week.
Goldstein “sent more than $6 million in cryptocurrency from the two wallets” over the past five days, prosecutors wrote in a filing in federal court in Maryland, despite a judge’s order preventing Goldstein from moving any funds without approval.
Additionally, shortly after Goldstein became the subject of a federal criminal tax investigation, he “provided items of value, including cryptocurrency, to a potential witness with knowledge of his and his law firm’s finances and income.”
The proposal "raises serious concerns that Goldstein's recent cryptocurrency transactions could also be used to influence potential witnesses to his criminal conduct," prosecutors wrote. (CNBC)
