The company's recently released report pointed out that most developers have now discovered that generative AI tools are revolutionizing software development, with a modest increase in productivity in the short term, followed by a complete transition to AI-native engineering practices. But Gartner insists that human expertise and creativity remain indispensable and there is a market for them. "Although AI will change the future role of software engineers, human expertise and creativity will always be essential to delivering complex, innovative software," wrote Philip Walsh, senior analyst at Gartner, in the report.
