It consumes a lot of electricity and data, with an estimated 460 terawatt hours (TWh) used in 2022, and is expected to increase significantly to between 620 and 1050 TWh by 2026. In 2024 alone, 1.21 billion devices are expected to be shipped, and the true potential of the idle computing power of these devices is difficult to estimate.
