Coinbase Chief Legal Officer: Reports that Coinbase violated campaign finance laws are wrong, the company is not a federal contractor

Odaily News Recently, it was reported that Coinbase appeared to have violated campaign finance laws, which prohibit current or future federal government contractors from making donations. Previously, Coinbase donated $25 million to the Fairshake cryptocurrency super PAC when they were actively negotiating a federal government contract. In response, Paul Grewal, chief legal officer of Coinbase, refuted it on X: "Whether intentional or unintentional, this is wrong information. According to the express provisions of 11 CFR 115.1, Coinbase is not a federal contractor. The USMS did not pay with grants-this was made clear in the public bid." Earlier in early July, the U.S. Marshals Service under the U.S. Department of Justice selected Coinbase Prime as its "Class 1" large-cap digital asset custody and trading service provider. Coinbase stands out for its strong security record and institutional-grade encryption service capabilities. Since its launch three years ago, Coinbase Prime has become the preferred platform for institutions and large crypto asset holders.
