People familiar with the matter: Apple will delay the release of its AI features to give it more time for testing
2024-07-29 00:35:27
Odaily News Apple Inc.'s upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) features will arrive later than expected, beyond the initial release of iPhone and iPad software updates, but will give the company more time to fix potential vulnerabilities. Apple plans to roll out Apple Intelligence to customers as part of a software update by October, according to people familiar with the matter. That means the AI features will be released a few weeks after the original release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which was originally scheduled for September, the people said. However, they added that Apple plans to make Apple Intelligence available to software developers for early testing for the first time as early as this week through the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas. But concerns about its stability have in part led the company to separate the features from the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Apple announced the new features and operating systems at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, saying Apple Intelligence would debut as part of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. The new schedule means the AI features won't be widely available until a subsequent update to the new operating systems. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment. (Bloomberg)
