Vitalik: The note-taking feature of the X platform community may be the closest example to "cryptographic value" in the mainstream world.

Odaily News Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his views on the Community Notes feature of the X platform (formerly Twitter). Community Notes is a fact-checking tool that sometimes attaches contextual annotations to tweets as a tool for fact-checking and combating misinformation. It was initially called Birdwatch and was first launched as a pilot project in January 2021.
Vitalik expressed that what interests him most about Community Notes is that, although it is not a "crypto project," it may be the closest thing to a "crypto value" example seen in the mainstream world.
Community Notes are not written or planned by a select group of experts; instead, they can be written and voted on by anyone, and which annotations are displayed or not displayed is entirely determined by open-source algorithms. The Twitter website provides detailed and extensive guidelines describing how the algorithm works, allowing users to download data that includes published annotations and votes, run the algorithm locally, and verify whether the output matches the content visible on the Twitter website. It is not perfect, but surprisingly, it comes close to meeting the ideal of trustworthiness and neutrality. Furthermore, even in controversial cases, it is impressively useful.
