They represent a new SNARK design approach that can improve the performance of widely deployed toolchains by an order of magnitude or more. They provide better and more convenient developer experience and make auditing easier.



The article states that Lasso introduces a simplified method to verify SNARKs by performing lookups on a large number of structured tables, avoiding tedious manual optimization circuits. Lasso can significantly improve the overall speed of SNARK provers, with a tenfold performance improvement compared to tools like the Halo2 toolchain, thus aiding the development of faster ZK-rollups.



Jolt is a framework designed specifically for Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible roll-ups. It is described as a novel approach that utilizes Lasso to build a SNARK VM. This allows developers to create faster SNARK-based Layer 2 rollups using their preferred programming language.
