Odaily News: The Fantom Foundation is researching the addition of Optimistic rollups between Fantom and Ethereum, which would make it a Layer 2 network on Ethereum. However, co-founder and architect Andre Cronje prefers to consider the commonly referred to Layer 2 networks as sidechains and sees the Optimistic rollups technology as a bridge between the two.
Cronje said, "We have been studying technologies like Optimistic Stacks, Arbitrum Stack, etc., to see how their standard bridging is using these proofs to achieve higher security guarantees. 'Are we considering adopting one of these stacks as our own standard bridge?' Yes, we are considering it and currently actively investigating."
Cronje confirmed that if Fantom adopts Optimistic rollups and provides a complete transaction history on Ethereum, Fantom would need to pay transaction fees to write these snapshots onto Ethereum.
Fantom Foundation CEO Michael Kong added that deploying Layer 2 technology in this way would allow the Fantom network to gain more liquidity from the Ethereum ecosystem. (The Block)
