Odaily News - Erin Koen, Governance Lead of the Uniswap Foundation, released an article on the Uniswap Governance Forum today, calling for community input on the launch of Uniswap V4.
In the article, Erin mentioned the estimated timeline for the launch of V4, which is as follows:
1. Protocol Code Release: Completed on June 13, 2023. The protocol code repository is now open to the public for viewing and contributions.
2. Protocol Code Freeze: This depends on the successful integration of EIP-1153 into the Cancun upgrade, projected to occur as early as September.
3. Protocol Code Deployment: The V4 codebase will undergo extensive auditing before deployment. The duration of the auditing process is currently uncertain, estimated to range from one to four months.
Erin emphasized that the above timeline is for reference only. It should be noted that the Cancun upgrade may experience delays, and the auditing process might be extended. The protocol may also undergo additional security testing that has not been discussed.
According to previous reports, in June of this year, Uniswap Labs released the draft code for Uniswap V4 and sought community feedback. The Uniswap V4 code will be released under the Business Source License (BSL) 1.1, which restricts the use of V4 source code in commercial or production environments for up to four years. After that period, it will permanently transition to the GPL license. The fee mechanism for the protocol will also be modeled after V3. Governance will have the ability to vote on adding protocol fees to any liquidity pool, with an upper limit.
Additionally, Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, tweeted that he personally believes BUSL is the best choice for the Uniswap community. BUSL, which provides a GPL change date, is distinct from other proprietary licenses and closer to open-source. It is understood that some may disagree with the above statement. If UNI token holders disagree, they can vote through v4-core-license-date.uniswap.eth governance to switch to GPL at an earlier date.
